Canadians must surely be confused about the Canadian government's position on global warming following Environment Minister John Baird's eleventh-hour U-turn earlier this month at the United Nations' climate change conference in Bali.

Baird went to Bali committed to his own green plan, which promises at best to meet Canada's target for greenhouse gas reductions under the Kyoto Protocol a full eight years after the Kyoto deal is over.

Insisting that more stringent targets would cause untold damage to Canada's economy, Baird fought tooth and nail in Bali against the targets recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Nobel Prize-winning UN body of scientists that is acknowledged to be the ultimate authority on global warming.
