President's Choice has introduces a revolutionary addition to the popular PC GREEN product range with the PC GREEN Phosphate-Free Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, the first retail-branded phosphate and chlorine-free automatic dishwashing detergent. This launch coincides with the Federal Government's recent proposal to limit the amount of phosphates added to laundry and dishwasher detergents to 0.5 per cent by 2010.

In independent testing, PC GREEN Phosphate-Free Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, in unit-dose form, was proven* to be as effective at removing stuck on food and stains as leading national brands containing phosphates.

Automatic dishwashing detergent is the last significant remaining contributor of phosphates among household cleaning products. Used to soften water, reduce spotting, hold dirt, and boost performance, typical automatic dishwasher detergents consist of up to 30 per cent phosphates, contributing approximately 5,000 tonnes of phosphates into Canada's waterways per year - equal to every Canadian adult and child throwing three large handfuls of phosphates into their local river or lake.

Excess phosphate causes the rapid growth of blue-green algae, which has become a serious problem in many Canadian fresh bodies of water. Although blue-green algae is naturally-occurring, in large quantities it can remove oxygen from the water, killing fish and other marine life. It can also lead to poor water quality and force the closure of recreational water areas.

he PC GREEN Automatic Dishwashing Detergent is one of seven new PC GREEN products launching this April, bringing the total number of PC GREEN products to 32. New products include cleaning products, such as a floor cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, bathroom cleaner and kitchen cleaner, as well as an innovative new multi-purpose cleaning putty, which can take on most household cleaning challenges.

* Independent tests conducted by Silliker Canada Company, March 2008, based on testing versus the two leading unit-dose dishwasher detergents. Testing carried out with water hardness of 125 ppm and water temperatures of 53 degrees C  +/- 3 degrees C.
